Red and White Home Storage Wheat

The recommended amount of wheat to store is five #10 cans per person per month.  Hard red winter wheat has a more robust flavor than the white wheat. The white wheat is lighter in color and flavor and often helps families who are used to eating white bread adjust to eating wheat bread. Whole wheat can be used in all baked goods including bread, cookies, cakes and pastries. Whole wheat can also be cooked and used as cereal or added to soups, salads and casseroles. In addition, the wheat can be made into gluten, a vegetable protein used as a meat replacement.
